Emergency
Fire
Fire fighting capability is based on a pumper truck and equipment from the community fire hall. Portable forestry equipment is also available for grass and brush fires.
Police
Police response is from the Swan River detachment, RCMP, phone (204) 734-3454. The community constable also responds.
Medical
Medical response is based on a provincial health unit in the community operated by a community health representative. Hospital service is available from Swan River.

Hydro
Provided by Manitoba Hydro as land- line electric power. Residential rates are:

Telephone
Manitoba Telecom Services provides individual-line service and digital switching with toll-free calling to Barrows, Benito, Birch River, Bowsman, Cowan, Mafeking, Minitonas, Swan River, Easterville, and Grand Rapids. Call MTS toll-free at (204) 225-5687.
Water
Water is pumped from Lake Winnipegosis to a dugout reservoir. From the reservoir, it is chlorinated and fed to a centrally located pumphouse. Piped distribution exists in most of the community.
Waste Disposal
There is a solid-waste disposal site located near the community and shared with Shoal River Indian Reserve. A low-pressure sewage collection system transfers sewage to a lagoon for treatment.
Schools
Frontier School Division operates the Pelican Rapids School in the community. The Reserve (Sapotaweyak Cree Nation) has its own school. Staff include the principal, three teachers and seven support staff. Phone (204) 587-2131.
